Demetris: “Australia is a dream that everyone should experience”
Everyone’s been asking me about how my life in Australia’s been. I don’t really know whether any words or pictures can actually describe this amazing experience.
I haven’t introduced myself yet. My name is Demetris and I come partly from the little Mediterranean paradise called Cyprus and partly from stunning Greece. I am studying in London, UK, and came to Australia for a semester abroad. I am studying business at Queensland University of technology.
I had many options for exchange in several countries and don’t really know how I ended up coming to Brisbane, Australia. But this was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. Australia combines everything. Every single part is so unique and beautiful.
While studying here, I had the opportunity to work and collect some money for traveling. It’s not difficult to get a job in Australia and almost all jobs pay well.
Traveling the world is a target I’ve always had. This was the main aspect I had in common with the amazing people who I’ve met here. We were a group of international exchange students with who we traveled around Australia.
I can not distinguish which was the best part of the whole experience. Brisbane itself was amazing. Some highlights of the whole experience though include driving off road on the wild Fraser island, snorkeling over the never ending corals at the Great Barrier Reef, surfing at Byron Bay, enjoying the breath-taking views in Tasmania or even exploring the rich cultural city centers of Melbourne and Sydney.
Now, I have moved to Melbourne for an internship. What an amazing city; the food, the nightlife, the people, the vibes. A city that will never let you down. There are things to do every single day and night. It is a very multicultural city and especially for me, the Greek community is huge here, as Melbourne is the second biggest city in Greek population after Athens. Melbourne can also combine numerous day trips to beautiful places like Phillip island to see the penguin parade and Torquay where I got to surf.
I never got bored in Australia. Of course, all beginnings are tough. But once I settled down and met those wonderful people my whole life here became remarkable.
Honestly, Australia is a dream that everyone should experience!!
